Colorado Hardiness Zones The USDA/National Arbor Day Foundation Plant Hardiness Zones divide different parts of the United States into one of 10 zones, based on average minimum annual temperatures. The National Arbor Day Foundation recently updated the zones. The United States is within Zones 1 through 10. Colorado is mostly Zones 5 (-10 to -20) and 6 (0 to -10), with pockets of Zone 4 (-20 to -30) in the mountains and Zone 7 (10 to 0) on the western border between Colorado and Utah. The Colorado Front Range (which includes Colorado Springs and Metro Denver) is in Zones 5 and 6. The Metro Denver area is considered Zone 5 - 6. Keep in mind that there are microclimates within cities, neighborhoods, and even your own yard which can affect hardiness.
