Brighton, ColoradoBrighton is located on the banks of the South Platte River, 20 miles northeast of downtown Denver and 10 miles from Denver International Airport. The community is a suburb of Denver, but freestanding from other suburbs. Brighton has all the advantages of small town living close to a big city, with a wide range of housing types and prices available. Business and residential growth has been strong. Brighton is adjacent to I-76 and Highway 85, and the new circumference highway, E-470, passes through the south part of the city. Brighton was founded in the 1870's as a stage/railroad depot and farming community, and was originally named Hughes Station. The city was incorporated in 1887 and named after Brighton Beach, New York. Brighton is the county seat of Adams County, with a current population of approximately 22,000.
